Celebrate the Holiday Season with this Unique Attraction

Each winter holiday season, Gatlinburg’s most famous downtown parkway is adorned with cheerful and mesmerizing lighting displays in a variety of holiday-themed shapes, and during this season, the Gatlinburg Trolley Ride of Lights takes visitors and locals through the route to see the spectacle.

Perhaps one of the most impressive aspects of the holiday light displays showcased by the Gatlinburg Trolley Ride of Lights is that they are run entirely on quarter-watt LED bulbs. Previously during the attraction’s multi-decade history, it once cost as much money to light the displays for three days as it now does to run the displays for one hundred and twenty days.

For a mere $5.00 admission, visitors can board the trolley and take in views of evergreen trees, winter forests, local wildlife species, snowmen, an enormous rocking horse, dancing fountains, and a romantic atmosphere, all created from the impressive LED displays. Watch animals like deer, foxes, rabbits, and squirrels cavort through the wintertime scenery.

The trolleys that run through the Gatlinburg Trolley Ride of Lights are enclosed and heated for your comfort, though they do not allow food or drink on the trolley. The trolleys all take the same route along the parkway, allowing visitors of all ages to enjoy the breathtaking display. Children under the age of three years are free, provided they remain sitting in an adult’s lap.

Every trolley operated by The Gatlinburg Trolley Ride of Lights service departs at 6:30pm, 7:30pm, and 8:30pm. The rides are not only visually stunning, but also function as a fun an informative tour that lasts for as long as forty-five minutes.

These trolleys depart from the mass transit center at Traffic Light #5, located near the Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies. Tours are not held during the Annual Christmas Parade, and during January, the trolleys only run on Saturday evenings.
