MayFest
Ober Gatlinburg is known for its fabulous skiing and the tram that takes people from town to the top of the mountain. However, each spring the area hosts MayFest. This is a traditional German festival that celebrates spring. There will be folk dancing and a celebration of the culture. You will learn about the history of Germany as well. The area is famous for its many artists, and they will give demonstrations at this festival. If you are looking for a challenge, you can participate in an uphill 5k.
Foothills Super Sprint
Businesses in the area are planning on opening back up after being closed for a long time due to the Coronavirus. This triathlon is a very important event for locals. 2021’s event will be much shorter than it normally would. There will be a 250-meter swim, 10k bike ride, as well as a 4k run. If you are a beginner who would like to challenge yourself, now is your big chance. Participation costs $45 to $60. You will get a T-shirt and enjoy a cookout.
Patriot Park
No Memorial Day in Gatlinburg would be complete without a trip to Patriot Park. The park pays tribute to our nation’s veterans, especially the ones from Sevier County. You will see a Gulf War Patriot Missile at this park as well as a flag from every state. Gatlinburg was the site of the famed Battle of Burg Hill in which the United States defeated the Confederacy in just an hour’s time. Many people come here to celebrate Memorial Day.
Plan Your Pigeon Forge Memorial Day Escape
Pigeon Forge Memorial Day Weekend in the Smokies is a great time to see wildlife and the wildflowers that are indigenous to the area.
