Although there are around 800 miles of trails in Shaconage, only a few of them will allow you to bring your best friend along. If you are planning a trip to the Gateway to the Smokies with your dog, it is helpful to know on which of the trails you will be welcome. The Gatlinburg Trail

Sugarland Visitor Center

1420 Fighting Creek Gap Rd, Gatlinburg, TN 37738

This beautiful 1.9-mile trail leaves from the Sugarland visitors center and takes you to the outskirts of the town of Gatlinburg. It is an easy hike that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It is mostly flat, and it is fairly wide, so if Fido finds something he absolutely needs to sniff, he can do so without tripping anyone. The trail runs along the west portion of the Little Pigeon River. You will cross the river on a long footbridge where you will see beautiful foliage and many birds.

Seven Island State Birding Park

3100 Kelly Lane, Kodak, TN, 37764

This park is home to roughly 180 species of birds. There are 8 miles of trails and a few of them allow dogs. You will get to see breathtaking views of the mountains and the rolling hills here. There are several barns here where owls are known to nest. There are a lot of endangered birds flying around this wildlife refuge, so be sure to keep your baby on a leash at all times. You must also clean up after your dog. There is no swimming for either dogs or humans at this state park, but you will see a lot of waterfowl enjoying the river.
