When you visit you will have the opportunity to explore hiking trails that take you by cascading waterfalls and historical settlements. Explore until your heart is content on your own to keep your kids off their phones or tablets. Another great way to explore the park is through the countless activities available such as horseback riding, river rafting, or even a scenic drive down the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. There are plenty of picnic stops along the motor trail making it the perfect Sunday afternoon drive. Take the Kids to Ober Mountain
During the winter months Gatlinburg’s very own Ober Mountain hosts a sprawling ski area that features incredible slopes to explore. However, during the summer season when the snow has melted you will continue to find even more fun and excitement. Enjoy their Adventure Park during the summer months that feature several outdoor attractions the whole family will love. This includes a ride on the Aerial Tramway that starts from Downtown Gatlinburg and takes you up to the park. Popular attractions at Ober Mountain include the Alpine Slide, Summer Tubing, Downhill Mountain Biking, year round ice skating, and the popular coaster. Best of all, all of the fun and excitement is up above the city giving you incredible views of Gatlinburg down below you.
Ride to the Top of the Gatlinburg Space Needle
For the best views here in Gatlinburg there is no place better than the Gatlinburg Space Needle. This is the tallest building in the city standing at a height of 407 feet. Visitors will be able to ride the elevator to the top of the observation tower and get the best views of Downtown Gatlinburg. You will enjoy 360 degree views of the Great Smoky Mountains and take in all of the sights. The observation tower is not the only fun at the Gatlinburg Space Needle either. At the base of the needle, you will find a 30,000-square-foot amusement center that includes various games and simulators to play. Or catch a show with Impossible, a magic and mindreading show that will have you questioning what is real and make believe. Who knew so much fun could be found here?
Check Out the Farmers Market
There is no better way to for the family to feel like a local here in Gatlinburg than by visiting the Gatlinburg Farmers Market. Local farmers will be on hand selling a variety of goods including local produce, eggs, and homemade baked goods. Other artisans will also be on hand selling wares including honey, jams, soap, candles, art work, jewelry, and natural health products. The Gatlinburg Farmers Market is open during the summer from May through October on Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM. You can find it located next to the post office on East Parkway.
Enjoy Smoky Mountain Tunes and Tales
Each summer Downtown Gatlinburg comes alive just after the sun has set. Local performers will take to the streets performing music and sharing tales that date back to the Appalachian Trail days. This time is known as the Smoky Mountain Tunes & Tales and takes place each evening in the city. Simply walk around the famous Parkway sidewalks and you will come across several of the performers in the area. Don’t miss out on this unique activity available only in the summer!
