If you plan your vacations around fishing, you will definitely want to check out the Smoky Mountain Trout Tournament. The tournament takes place in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and it is held in April every year. This exciting competition just celebrated its 20th year in April of 2019. The event is open to fisher persons of all ages. They stock the river with 5000 trout before the event begins, so you are unlikely to go home empty handed.
What You Should Bring
In addition to your fishing pole, insect repellent and plenty of sunscreen, you will need a fishing license. The licenses can be obtained in advance by calling (865) 661-3474.
The Tournament
Set your alarm clock, because the fishing begins 30 minutes before sunrise and goes on until 4:00 p.m. There are over $10,000 in prizes awarded at this tournament. You must present your weigh-ins to win and prizes are awarded for your total weigh-in for both days. There will be prizes for both the largest and smallest trout. Your trout must have clear eyes and red gills. You will be limited to one rod and it can only have one single hook. It’s one of the best things to do in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg if you’re a fan of fishing!
If you want to participate in this fishing contest, you will have to agree to take a polygraph test if asked. You may not fish with anyone who is not registered in the tournament and you must pay the $40 registration fee. Each weigh-in will take place at Patriot Park.
In addition to the major prizes you can also win dinners, amusement park tickets and fishing equipment. There are a lot of great places to go in the Pigeon Forge area, so you will definitely get your moneys worth if you participate in the tournament.
