Hit the Slopes of Gatlinburg
Gatlinburg is home to the only ski resort in the entire state of Tennessee: Ober Gatlinburg. Here, downhill skiing and snowboarding can be enjoyed at visitors’ leisure, with one of the longest skiing seasons in the southern United States of mid-December through early March.
The resort is home to a terrain park with boxes, rails, and tabletops, as well as eight different trails for skiing and snowboarding. Ober Gatlinburg’s trails include two green slopes, four blue slopes, and two black diamond slopes. Its peak elevation is 3,300 feet, with a vertical drop of 600 feet. The ski resort is served by a tow lift, a quad chairlift, and two double chairlifts.
Snowboard lessons and rentals are available on-site at Ober Gatlinburg, as well as all of the necessary clothing and gear needed for snowboarding. The resort has a mandatory requirement of lessons for first-time snowboarders.
Rental prices for a snowboard and boot packages cost $25.00 for a night session and $30.00 for a full or twilight session. Helmets, jackets, and pants can be rented for $6.00 to $12.00 per day. If you have your own snowboard that you’re bringing with you, Ober Gatlinburg has a useful tuning shop where you can have your snowboard “tuned,” or sanded and waxed. Prices for these services are $8.00 to $20.00 for waxing services, $20.00 to repair bindings and edges, and $30.00 to $40.00 for a full tune-up.
Lessons are priced at $19.00 per hour per person for a group lessons or $60.00 per hour per person for a private lesson. Private lessons have the option to host up to four people for $19.00 per hour per person.
Prices for admission to the skiing and snowboarding area range from $20.00 to $30.00 for a night session on Monday through Friday to $185.00 for a three-day ski area ticket for three holiday days, with options for season passes.
