When staying in our vacation rentals Gatlinburg, you can shop for gifts and souvenirs at the Great Smoky Mountain Thanksgiving Arts & Crafts show held November 20 through the 25th at the Gatlinburg Convention Center or enjoy a Turkey Day Feast from Apple Annie’s; eat it there or order it to go for a Thanksgiving celebration in the cabin. Christmas celebrations can include a trip on the Trolley Ride of Lights or a magical event we call Gatlinburg Winter Magic—the latter offers an environmentally friendly Christmas light display using LED lights and is held November 7th through January 26, 2019.
In addition to Christmas tree lights and trolley rides, Gatlinburg is famous for its dinner theater, and each theater company has a special holiday show. Sweet Fanny Adam’s Theater features a yuletide themed vaudeville show. You can join the cast in singing Christmas tunes and watch a very short version of, “A Christmas Carol.” Dolly Parton’s Stampede offers a full reenactment of the birth of Christ, complete with camel-riding kings and angels that look just like Dolly, descending from the sky. You will enjoy many of your favorite holiday songs and you may be chosen to be part of the show. The Comedy Barn offers a show filled with laughter, puppets and a lot of family fun. The Hatfield and McCoy show features a show about the famous feuding families attempting to put their differences aside for the holidays.
If you don’t feel like being cooped up in a theater for a couple of hours, you can always see a great show while you’re just walking down the street. Just head Downtown for Gatlinburg Tunes and Tales nights, which take place on the four weekends in between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Here you will see dancers, storytellers and musicians reenacting the days of Christmas past.
If you want a big New Year’s Eve celebration without dealing with the madness of Times Square, you can attend the Gatlinburg Ball Drop Celebration. Our Downtown has the biggest NYE celebration in the region. The ball drops off of our Space Needle where you will enjoy a DJ all night long. There is a firework display and a LED light display.
